17 April 2008
An
attempt of smuggling into Ukraine of Japanese-made motor vehicles was prevented by border guards and customs officers in Lviv oblast. Two disassembled motorcycles and a scooter was hidden from control by a 45-years-old resident of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast who was coming back in his Mercedes
minibus from Poland
via Smilnytsya border checkpoint. During
customs and border control, the man informed that he was delivering 2.6 tons of
second-hand clothes as well as two bicycles with motors. The bicycles turned
out to be Suzuki and Honda motorcycles evaluated at almost UAH 46.5 thousand and over 36.8 thousand respectively, as well as
Yamaha scooter evaluated at UAH 25,000. To avoid drawing unnecessary attention,
the disassembled vehicles were hidden under the bags
with second-hand clothes. The motorcycles and scooter were
withdrawn and sent to the customs office. The minibus in which the
vehicles were delivered was also confiscated and
evaluated by experts at almost UAH 71,000.
