Two Kyivites promoting transfer of illegal migrants from Afghanistan and Somalia detained in Chernihiv oblast
17 April 2008
Two motor cars, Ford and Opel,
were stopped by a joint duty of Horodnya
mobile border post and SSU officers on Horodnya-Chernihiv
highway, 12 km
from the Ukrainian-Russian border. The law-enforcement officers had information
on possible delivery of illegal migrants by those vehicles. In the cars driven
by Kyiv residents, the officers really found seven nationals of Somalia and two
Afghan citizens. Besides, the duty was told that some more
illegal migrants were waiting for the transport, and four more Afghans
were found in a wood near Polissya village, Horodnya district. The detained foreigners had no documents
but said that their group had been formed in Moscow and brought across the
Ukrainian-Russian border by guides. Currently, the investigation section
of the SSU department in Chernihiv oblast considers
the question about initiating a criminal case against the detained drivers for
illegal transfer of persons via Ukraine’s
state border. It should be noted that Ukrainian border
guards have detained 33 Somalia
nationals and 9 Afghans attempting to trespass the border during three months of
the current year.
